Malaysia-Beijing Group of Companies started its business primarily in the travel industry by taking over Bhanli Tour & Travel Sdn Bhd and changing its name to Malaysia-Beijing Travel Services Sdn Bhd (MBTS). The foresight of Dato’ Ng Kek Kiong, Managing Director of MB Group of Companies, led him to believe strongly in the immense potential of the China market given the country’s ancient history and huge population base of 1.3 billion.

Although Malaysia and China established diplomatic relations in 1974, the relationship then was confined to official exchanges only while Malaysian citizens besides those aged 60 and above, were not allowed to visit China. In the early 1980’s, China gradually opened its door and Sino-Malaysian relations moved closer. Dato’ Ng Kek Kiong saw the opportunities and decided that it was time to make an entry into the China travel market.

In 1989, MBTS became the first travel company to be licensed by the Home Ministry to organize tours to China for Malaysian citizens who were 30 years and above. In the following year, it again became the first travel company to be given approval by the Home Ministry to sponsor Chinese citizens for visit to Malaysia.

But it was not all roses. Since its inception, MBTS too has had a fair share of setbacks, having to face the onslaught of several economic recessions and epidemics such as Nipah and SARS which adversely affected the travel industry. Nevertheless, in weal and woe, MBTS has been able to take its stride owing to the able leadership and vision of its management team.

Presently, MBTS operates as a full-fledged travel and tour company offering Inbound Tour, Outbound Tour, Domestic Tour, Ticketing, Internet Booking, Tour Bus Service, etc.

Besides travel and tours, MB Group of Companies now has diversified business interests, both local and international, in various sectors, including air cargo, plantation, real estate, trading, publishing and information technology with offices in many major cities in China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Danshui, etc.
